Caravaggio&Naples: Virtual Online Tour
Michelangelo Merisi, know as Caravaggio, is one of the most important painter of the history. He spent two stays in Naples, the capital of the Spanish viceroyalty, leaving here some of his most beautiful works.
We will know together, in our virtual journey, the reasons that led him to escape from Rome, where he had been sentenced to death, to move to Naples.
Through the eyes and the words of an art historian you can able to enter into his masterpieces:
the “Seven works of mercy” for the Pio Monte Church, in the heart of Naples historical center, that stages one of the narrow street of the city full of people;
the “Flagellation of Jesus Christ” for the huge San Dominic Church, and now preserved in the Capodimonte Museum.
“the martyrdom of Saint Ursola” his last painting, that he made for a family of Genoese bankers and kept in Palazzo Zevallos, at the feet of Spanish Quarters
Caravaggio can be considered a real Neapolitan “scugnizzo”, so even in Naples did not miss squabble and fights that bring him to move away, but he came back in the last year of his life.
We will do a walk among the sounds, colors, shadows and lights of the alleys of the city that the great artist has traveled.
